Cursive writing

We need to learn and teach cursive writing   *
This is so true, but watch what you are using. I very much believe that we need to use good old fashion paper and pencil.  The logic for this is that there is a difference between writing where you can feel the pencil working on the page, verses on the computer.
I found an online site for cursive writing that looked good because it approached the skill from a slightly different approach - doing the practice on the computer, a nice change of pace.  The site is put out by Brain counts - Brain counts.  The cursive writing is an apps, BUT, after reading the review I would not download it.  The app looks promising, it is the ads that go along with the app - dating sites, etc etc, not an ok thing for little people.  In defense of the company that develop the program, it may very well not be the company, so much as the means of delivery.
I will keep looking for a better program though.

It took some looking, and really I just lucked into it, but I found a cursive writing program that you can get straight off the internet - Startwrite.  This program offers both manuscript (printing) and cursive.  One problem is that you have to purchase it.  The price is quite affordable and you get to pick and choose the pages you want to buy, that way you are only buying what you are going to use.  You simple download the sheets you want.  There is a free trail, that you can try out if you want.  I really liked everything about the program.
As with any program you get out of it what you put into it.  If you simple hand the worksheets to your students and expect them to do the work,  it will not be as successful.  Make sure you help the student, practice on large pieces of paper or a blackboard or whatever - be part of the learning process. Click on this link to get to the website.  -   startwrite.

I just found another great site -check it out.  This person, Suzanne Baruch Asherson, believes like me that learning cursive writing is very important for the learning process.  Check out her site at Hand writing without tears.
